The evaluation of informative speech №2
Hello,
everyone! Last week we covered the topic of listening strategies. Polina
Yurganova gave a speech online on this topic on the platform called “Zoom”. We
watched her performance and our task is to evaluate it using the table we chose
together.
1. Introduction: ( 10 points)
·
What technique(s) was used in the
introduction?
·
I
suppose that asking a rhetorical question was an attention-getter. It worked
indeed. Besides, Polina made a reference to the audience saying that we were
also a part of her speech because we listened to her.
·
Any link-element?
·
I
think that the link element was the statement that we lose something when we do
not listen effectively.
·
Was the thesis statement given?
·
Yes.
The speaker pointed out that listening is as important as speaking.
·
How effective was the introduction?
·
The
efficacy of the introduction was high. Polina managed to draw the attention of
listeners to the topic and make them interested about it.

The strength of the speech: its well-thought structure, good examples, the use of
attention-getters.
The weakness of the speech: I suppose maybe it should be better if Polina gave
explanation to her statement that we spend 45% of our time to listening. But
honestly, I did not notice big weaknesses.
I am inspired by Polina’s performance because it is
evident that she put a lot of effort to prepare her speech. I realized that
being an active listener is also very important.
What about you? What do you think of
Polina’s speech? Let me know in the comments down below!
