The evaluation of informative speeches №5,6



Every week we listen to informative speeches on different topics related to public speaking. This way we are supposed to learn something that will help us with our future performances. Last time we watched Maskalyova Alina’s and Bochkaryova Vika’s public speeches. We have to evaluate their efforts and skills. I would like to start with Alina’s performance.
1. Introduction: ( 10 points)
·        What technique(s) was used in the introduction?
·       Quotation, making reference, rhetorical question were  used as an attention-getters.
·        Any link-element?
·        I suppose that the link-element was that Alina compared conclusion with desserts.
·        Was the thesis statement given?
·        The main thesis statement was that making conclusion is as important as having a great introduction. It makes your speech memorable to the audience.
·        How effective was the introduction?
·        It  was highly effective, IMHO.

·        How well structured was the information presented?
·        There is no doubt that the speech was well-structured. Everything was well though out.

·        Outlining and organizational patterns were used. Alina used also problem-solution pattern of organization.

The strength of the speech: the usage of techniques in the introduction and conclusion of her speech, good structure, clarity.
The weakness of the speech:  examples could have been more various.
Now I will assess Vika’s performance.

·        Vika used the quote by Joanne Rowling.
·        Any link-element?
·         the link-element: even smart people have stage fright, and many speakers reckon that introduction is the toughest part of speech.
 ·        Was the thesis statement given?
·        The main thesis statement was that introduction sets the tone for the remainder of speech
·        How effective was the introduction?
·        It was effective because it caught our attention to the topic.

The strength of the speech: Her speech was coherent and very understandable.
The weakness of the speech: I do not know. Everything was alright.
It was interesting to watch both performances, I believe girls worked with the information very well.
